The Vale of Gadagar by Dragoroth

Unzip the Vale of Gadagar folder to your Drakan game folder.  The folder contains 9 game files plus this Readme file.  All 9 game files are required to run the level.  You can start the level by starting Drakan in developer mode, selecting New Game, and double-clicking on "The Vale of Gadagar".

The storyline begins with Rynn and Arokh having traveled to a distant land to retrieve a powerful weapon...

Known Bugs/Issues:  If you use the crushing block on the two giants in the large cavern, dropping the block while a giant is about to throw an object will cause the game to freeze.  Be sure to throw the switch early enough to avoid crashing the game.

The level contains some simple puzzles and quest items.  The solutions to these are listed below if you need them.

> Solutions to Puzzles & Quest Items

1. To Escape from Cell:  Push the statue block.  Go thru secret entrance and retrieve bow & arrows.  Shoot wartok once, as he approaches the cell the gate will open, then finish him off.

2. To Open Weapons Chamber:  Count the boxes and barrels for the push-plate order.

3. Red Key:  Killing death mage that appears in front of altar will open bases of statues

4. Lake Cavern:  A giant appears after you explore the length of the lake.  Killing the giant will open an underwater passage.  The giant can be  killed by using the ledge with the crate to shoot arrows at the exploding barrels as he approches them.

5. Rotating Blade Room & Blue Key:  Jump on top of the center as blade changes direction, or use crate in corner to jump.  Retrieve sword and blue key after using switch to stop blade.

6. Yellow Key:  Turn off force field with candle switch on wall.  Use floor switch to open gate above stairs.

7. Color Switch Room:  After unlocking force fields and defeating knight, step on switches in correct order.  The colors on left wall plate give the order:  Red, Yellow, then Blue.  The corner switch resets the push plates.

8. Hidden Cave & Crossing River:  Ascend the ledges beside waterfall to reach cave with explosive arrows and plate armor.  Return to ledge between waterfalls, dive into water, swim river and exit left above lowest waterfall.  Follow mountain path that starts on North side of  Orc camp.

9. Elevator Maze:  The colors of the hanging lamps are the "safe" elevators: Purple, Green, Orange.  First jump on Purple, turn right and jump on Green.  Ride Green across, then back, then across again.  Jump to Orange as it ascends.  Descend on Orange and jump to Green as it passes, but then quickly turn around and jump to Purple.  Ride past Blue, then jump to right onto Orange.  Ascend Orange and jump to Green.  Ride past Red and jump to Purple on right.  Ride purple to other side.

10. Magma Weapon Room:  The colors of the statue crystals you pass on the way in give the order for the switches:  Purple, Green, Orange, Red.  Defeating the death mages opens the gate to the weapon room.  Before using the crystal switches in each corner, you must first unlock the first one, Purple.  Use the three primary color swithches on the wall to create the correct secondary color.  That is create Purple by turning Blue and Red.  In aligning Rynn for these switches, remember that she is right-handed, so align her right side with the switch you intend to activate.  After unlocking Purple, simply activate each corner crystal switch in the order Purple, Green, Orange, Red.  After activating the Red and moving toward the axe, the force fields will turn off.  Caution: the Magma Bow only has one shot.

11. Gadagar's Lair:  Use the key from the East House to unlock the caves's "back door" on the West side.

12. Defeating Gadagar:  After defeating the first crimson knight, use your axe to break the green crystal, which turns off the green force field.  Enter the cave with the green magic generator and use the Magma Bow to destroy the generator.  Return to the adjacent room and defeat Gadagar after he appears.  To exit, the key in the gargoyle head will open the large gate you past on the way in.
